As snow falls on the Lake Tahoe mountains, winter athletes rush to find space at high-end resorts to compete in events and refine their skills. Eventually, hundreds of vacationers will travel from the Bay Area to spend time with family and relatives. That’s the signal of the start of winter relaxation, but also a less authentic experience for more hard-core winter athletes. With the influx of Bay Area and Central Valley residents going into the Tahoe area and the increase in Tahoe’s popularity, resorts seem to be losing the importance they once had.
