With a resounding cheer of “MV score!”, MVHS varsity field hockey took the field against Los Altos HS on Oct. 14. For most of the first half, MVHS maintained possession and kept the ball on LAHS’ side. Aggressive offense from LAHS resulted in a yellow card for a player who shoved a MVHS defender. MVHS made a few attempts to score but were unable to do so. Halfway through the first half, LAHS scored off a breakaway.
With the first half ending 0-1, MVHS responded with a goal early in the second. LAHS pushed the ball up to MVHS’ side more frequently in the second half, but MVHS’ defense was able to strongly clear the ball back. A LAHS interception on a pass resulted in a second goal with five minutes left. MVHS took a timeout, then returned to the field. The team made a few more attempts on goal but was unable to score in the remaining minutes of the game, resulting in a 1-2 loss.
The next home game is Friday, Oct. 21 at 3:30 p.m. against Homestead HS.
