Since 1968, the month of Sept. has been dedicated to celebrating the diverse history and traditions of the culture of Hispanic and Latino Americans.
Even before the existence of America, these traditions have played an integral part in the everyday lives of Hispanics and Latinos and are continually celebrated to honor their culture in many different ways.
Note: The term Hispanic represents people from countries of a Spanish-speaking origin, while Latino refers to people from a country of Latin American origin. We use the terms “Hispanic” and “Latino” to reflect the terminology on the official website for National Hispanic Heritage Month.
