Ever since Facebook introduced its famous “like” button in Feb. 2009, the logo has been an iconic symbol in the tech and social media world. Seven years later, the company decided to revamp its popular system — a change that was announced in late 2015. Rather than restricting users to a single button, Facebook incorporated emoticons, more commonly known as “emojis,” as components to go along with the like button. As trivial as they may seem, Facebook’s new emojis express several emotions: “love,” “haha,” “wow,” “sad” and “angry.” The original cast of the new like buttons included all of those mentioned earlier and an additional emotion of “yay.” The “yay” button was later removed due to uncertainty of the emotion by the sampling panel.
