UPDATE: Senior Radwan Hamwi found by police

UPDATE: Senior Radwan Hamwi found by police

UPDATE (Feb. 25 1:42 p.m.): Senior Radwan Hamwi is no longer missing. According to his close friend senior Ally Malone, the police found Hamwi at the quarry.

UPDATE (Feb. 24 9:20 p.m.): Senior John Deng created a Google doc on which students were encouraged to write a “happy memory” about Hamwi, and within an hour over 70 messages were posted. After some problems with the doc, senior Ahmad Ali-Ahmad moved the collection to a form titled “Memories with Radwan”, that will eventually be published.

“We’re not sure where he is or if he’s even in the area,” senior Ally Malone said, “But just spreading the word, like Facebook posts. Especially commenting or writing [memories] would be appreciated.”

Vice principal Mike White cancelled the panoramic photo of Class of 2016 scheduled for Feb. 25.

It is our hope that the Class of 2016 will help his family by distributing these flyers throughout the community during the Course Information Fair,” White said in an email sent through School Loop to the senior class.  “I will be working with the Senior Class Officers and the photography company to reschedule the Senior Panoramic when the entire class of 2016 can be in the picture.”

Senior Radwan Hamwi has been reported missing and is “considered to be at risk” according to a public announcement posted to the City of Cupertino’s website and the City’s official twitter account. At 10:28 a.m. on Feb. 24, the City of Cupertino tweeted an image of Hamwi and asked the public for help in the search for the missing senior.

City of Cupertino message:

“The Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office is seeking to safely locate Radwan Hamwi, a missing 18 year old male considered to be at risk. Radwan is 5’11 and weighs 185 lbs. He has short black hair and brown eyes. If located or if you have seen Radwan, please contact the Sheriff’s Office by calling 911.”

Deputy Lee Hickinbotham stated that students, as well as officers and the Search and Rescue team, are currently looking for Hamwi. Senior Gerard Maggiolino, who attends middle college, and a group of Hamwi’s friends from MVHS, Cupertino High School and middle college have formed their own search party. They are scouting for Hamwi in places they think he may have gone.

Seniors Ally Malone and Tara Arya, members of the search group and friends of Hamwi, last saw him on Monday night. Friends and teachers are reaching out to him via Facebook. Hamwi posted a note to his Facebook timeline at around 4:00 a.m. on Feb. 24.

If you have any information about Hamwi’s location, contact the Sheriff’s Office by calling 911.

This post will be updated as more information becomes available.
