On Friday, Feb. 12, the boys basketball team took on the Cupertino Pioneers for the second time this season, hoping to keep their league championship hopes alive. After a nail-biting two point loss last go around, the players, coaches and fans from both sides expected another tightly contested matchup. But this was the complete opposite. The Pioneers started out the game with a 16-0 lead and by the half had extended it to 34-9. MVHS was unable to come back from this nearly unsurmountable lead in the second half and ended up malling 58-41. Senior Ajaypal Singh led the way for the Pioneers with 17 points and was followed closely by sophomore George Elegood who erupted for five threes.
The Matadors will have their senior night on Feb. 19 against Saratoga HS.
