On Jan. 8 at 6:45 a.m., the football field was empty at first glance, just like it would be on a typical Friday morning. But on this Friday morning, unlike any other, a group of seniors sporting blankets, swimming parkas and onesies congregated at the top of the bleachers as they watched the sunrise.Leadership hosted Class of 2016’s Senior Sunrise, creating a Facebook events as a reminder and providing hot chocolate and donuts. Class of 2016 Vice President Ahmad Ali-Ahmad explained that they wanted to put Senior Sunrise together because it’s an American high school tradition.
Ali-Ahmad explained that the event was intended to occur at the beginning of first semester, but it became difficult to plan it then. So then they postponed it to the first day of second semester, but bad weather set the final date to Jan. 8.
“We didn’t expect it to be as amazing,” Ali-Ahmad said. “It went really well, we didn’t expect this much of a turnout.”
Arriving 50 minutes early to school, the students just cozied up together, sipping hot chocolate and waiting for the sun to rise in the pink sky. When the sun began to rise at 7:22 a.m., a senior pointed to the sky and said “Look the fire ball is coming out!” — immediately, students took out their phones to capture shots and lingered until the bell rang to watch sun light up the horizon.
