In recent years, there has been a movement to reform sports and school mascot names once deemed admissible in society. Previously silent groups of people such as the Native American community are now standing up against the injustice that they feel as a response to the widespread use of offensive names such as “redskins”. An important question must be answered by our own student body in the near future: Is our own mascot, the matador, offensive in any way? The sport of bullfighting is frowned upon by much of the international community and has received attention as an animal rights issue in recent years. The matador, undoubtably plays a key role in this cruelty, but is our mascot inextricably linked to this event that happens on the other side of the world?
