The “Poof” – junior Amir Bashti
For junior Amir Bashti, an avid soccer player, role model David Beckham not only has the moves, the wife, the kids and the money — Beckham also has the hair.
Last year, Bashti, with the help of his brother, shaved off the sides of his head, but kept the top long. What resulted was something he found different and something that allowed him to express himself, so he kept doing it.
“It’s been a year … I have no complaints,” Bashti said. “I like it for now unless I change my mind and find something cooler.”
Although Bashti is satisfied with his hairdo, some of his friends make jokes about his “poof” when it gets too long.
“People definitely notice it enough to make a comment about it,” Bashti said. “But I think it’s pretty cool.”
The Elvis: Junior Sarika Kanhere (not pictured)
For junior Sarika Kanhere, getting a haircut was not a difficult decision. She knew that she wanted short hair, and after milling about the decision for a while, she finally decided to take the risk.+
“I was sick of having my long hair because it was a hassle,” Kanhere said. “A girl in my class had really short hair, and it looked really nice on her … she said I should go for it, so I did.”
By trying out a completely new hairstyle, she also reduced the time it took her to get ready every morning.
“It’s really easy to maintain […] I just brush it and wash it,” Kanhere said.
Kanhere is completely satisfied with her new hair and recommends getting a haircut to anyone who is considering it. She explains that when she got it cut short, she was only shocked for a few moments.
“It was weird [seeing my hair on the ground] because I had pretty long hair,” Kanhere said. “But I eventually got over it.”
