Senior Anjuli Matharu voted as ‘Most Likely to be a Comedian‘.
Starting last month, Student and Staff Recognition Commission from MVHS Leadership is recognizing students monthly for specific characteristics. For November, Matador of the Month awards were given to seniors Anjuli Matharu and Robert Sulgit, an El Estoque staffer, for “Most Likely to be a Comedian.” In an interview with El Estoque, Matharu describes her reactions.
El Estoque: What are your thoughts on being recognized as the Matador of the Month this month?
Anjuli Matharu: Honestly, I don’t really know what to say. I feel super honored that people think of me enough to vote for me for this award. I think that [it is] really sweet… that people around me actually feel happy whenever I tell a joke.
EE: Why do you think students voted for you as “Mostly Likely to be a Comedian?”
AM: I don’t know. I think it’s because I say stupid things a lot and people laugh at me. Then people think I am a funny person.
EE: Could you imagine yourself as a comedian in the future?
AM: Sure, I mean I think it would be fun because you get to tell people jokes. But, I feel like it would be really uncomfortable if people [don’t] laugh. It would be hard to actually practice the jokes and prepare to entertain people. I don’t think I would have a professional job as a comedian because it’s a lot of work, but I think I can still imagine myself being funny without it.
EE: Where do you think you gained your sense of humor?
AM: My dad thinks he is funny, but I don’t think he is. My brother is really funny, so I might have gotten it from him. I like to watch Louis CK and Kevin Hart, who are funny comedians.
EE: What is your favorite joke?
AM: I don’t really have a favorite joke. But, I do have many funny stories that people usually laugh at. If I had to choose some funny jokes though, [I would pick]: “What’s Michelle Obama’s favorite vegetable?” “Barack-oli!” or “What’s Beethoven’s favorite fruit?” “BANANA-NA!”
