Blue Pearl is different from other dances in that its focus is not solely on dancing but also on a novel atmosphere. The result is a dance that much of the student body can enjoy.
Although Blue Pearl is the only dance that features dinner, a live jazz band and a swing dance instructor, its ticket price of $15 is not higher than that of other dances. For the same cost as admission to Homecoming or Sadie’s, students can dance, socialize and enjoy dinner with friends in a Jazz-Age atmosphere that is not found at any other school event.
The 1920s theme appeals to the student body, especially since many juniors are currently reading “The Great Gatsby” or learning about the Roaring Twenties in class. In addition, the dance provides the opportunity to dress in the flapper style characteristic of that era. Jazz music and a swing-dancing lesson means students are less pressured to freak dance, a style many feel uncomfortable with.
Blue Pearl is a dance that provides a unique experience that differs from Homecoming or Sadie’s, but for the same price. Due to this, Blue Pearl is entirely deserving of its popularity and success.[/toggle_content]
