With Homecoming just around the corner, students take a moment to discuss the concept of “class spirit” and why it matters so much to the community
Homecoming week has kicked off with a wide range of activities and contests, such as dress up days, talent shows, food drives and Quad Decorations. As class competition gets fierce, students look into the root of this competition to discover what exactly class spirit is — and why it is so important not just during Homecoming, but to the MVHS community.
[toggle_content title=”Transcript”] Junior Marali Polasani: I think class spirit is a way that our school can come together and really be unified, and form a community where they are allowed to express themselves.Junior Ketaki Malaviya: I think it matters because it brings the school together.
Freshman Alex Erf: Class spirit matters because it makes students more excited in school, and it makes them excited to learn more and do better.
Senior Eric Strohm: It doesn’t.
Freshman Elianna Ku: I think it’s just for fun, like to see what other people like to do on spirit days.
Freshman Kierstan Chu: It matters because it makes high school more fun, it gives students a reason why they should participate more and it’s more enjoyable.
Senior Aishwarya Karnik: I think it matters because we’re working so hard, and sometimes we forget that we’re all one school because we’re competing against each other —so when we become spirited for the school, we become all one school.
Senior Meenu Krishnasamy: I think it’s important because it’s important that we have fun here at school, and it’s good to show our school spirit for our class, and it makes us united
Senior Anush Velmurugan: School spirit matters because considering how stressful this school is, school spirit sort of gives everyone a channel to vent other stress, especially at rallies —half the people are probably yelling, “Darn that math test.” [laughs]
Senior Meenu Krishnasamy: I think it’s important because it’s important that we have fun here at school, and it’s good to show our school spirit for our class, and it makes us united.
Senior Samir Akre: School spirit matters because it makes the whole Monta Vista experience a lot more fun —because you’re more into your class, and it’s great.
