What’s up Monta Vista? Welcome to our sports podcast for the week of Feb. 4. We’re Atharva Fulay and Carissa Chan. In this week’s episode, we will be covering the Super Bowl, senior games and fixed soccer matches.
First off: The 49ers lost in the Harbaugh vs. Harbaugh Super Bowl game last Sunday. Quarterback Colin Kaepernick had a shaky start, and though they looked like they might come back after the blackout in the third quarter, it wasn’t enough against Baltimore QB Joe Flacco and the Ravens. The score ended up 34-31.
Roger that! Girls soccer lost their senior night 1-2 to Mountain View High School on Wednesday. Senior Malvika Mecker scored the Matadors’ only goal that game. The girls soccer has a overall record of 6-6-6 and a league record of 2-6-3. If they beat Homestead next Wednesday, they can make it to CCS as a wild card team.
Speaking of soccer, recently, Europol has revealed that almost 700 pro soccer matches over the past few years might have been fixed. More to come as investigations continue.
You know what else is fixed?
No.
Me neither.
Moving on! Girls basketball has their senior night tonight at 6:15 and boys basketball has theirs at 7:45 in the gym. Both the basketball teams will not make CCS this year.
And lastly, MLB pitchers and catchers report to spring training this Monday. Look for a preview of the MLB season in the March print issue of El Estoque.
That’s all for this week! Thanks for listening. Join us again next week for another podcast. Until then, we’re Carissa Chan and Atharva Fulay telling you what you need to know.
