When El Estoque asked students who the President of the Senate was, we received a wide variety of responses. Out of 100 responders, 22 knew that the president of the Senate was Joe Biden. The president of the Senate — not to be confused with the President Pro Tempore, who is responsible for running the affairs of the Senate when its president is unavailable — is the tiebreaking vote among the senators. The seat is held, by order of the U.S. Constitution, by the incumbent vice president of the United States, who is responsible for mediating Senate meetings.
