On the evening of Tuesday, Sept. 11, the school halls will be packed — but with parents, not students. From 7 to 9 p.m., parents will be given the chance to spend a couple hours in their son or daughter’s shoes at Back to School Night.
Parents will go through a typical seven period day in which they will be allotted ten minutes in each class. Teachers will prepare presentations and tell the parents about the course expectations and load.
“I usually give parents a personal introduction, something about me and my teaching experience, go into what we’ll be learning in the course and then some logistics and information on how grades are done and how they can contact me,” Spanish teacher Molly Guadiamos said.
Dean of Students Nico Flores believes that parent attendance at Back to School Night is vital.
“We want [parents] to be able to visit their child’s classroom, get to know the teacher, get to know the expectations of the class, the workload, and the commitment,” Flores said. “It’s a comfortable way for [them] to know what the year looks like.”
Back to School Night will be held on September 11, from 7 to 9 p.m. at MVHS. Informational packets will be distributed in the Rally Court.
