Students and staff will use separate networks in the future, but only the staff’s network is currently available. Because MVHS is the first school in the district to go through the wireless upgrades, problems with connectivity, reception and wiring have occurred on some areas of campus, including the portables and locker rooms.
“It’s new for all of us, even the company,” network support representative Sal Murillo said, as the company usually does not work with schools .
Before access is made available to students, the school wants to ensure the kinks in the staff’s network are worked out.
“As soon as we’re comfortable and connected, the students will get access. We don’t want to throw more problems into the mix,” Murillo said.
Though the new wireless system is not accessible to students yet, according to junior Reeti Banthia students can still connect to the previous wireless system. Until the new network is available, that is the only alternative for students.
