No wires? No problem.
According to network representative Sal Murillo, the installation of a new wireless Internet system on campus began on Sept.16. It will slowly be put in place and should be usable in a few weeks. Similar wireless upgrades are occurring district-wide and are scheduled to be completed this October.
Cisco wireless hardware has already been installed on the ceiling of the Main Office and will continue to be added on other campus buildings to create maximum coverage. Installation will take place on the outside of classrooms during the school day to avoid disruption of classes.
The previous system was over 10 years old and often unusable. For English teacher Kate Evard, the wireless connection rarely worked in any of the three classrooms she has taught in. Evard, along with many other teachers, stopped using the wireless connection because of its frequent failure.
The new system is intended to provide faster and stronger coverage on more campus areas. However, there is no way to know the results of the system until it is completely installed.
“With technology, you can never be optimistic,” Murillo said.
