YouTube website is up and running, applications being filled out—candidates are gearing up to campaign!
It’s that time of year again—the time to vote and see, for the very first time, who wins the title of president, treasurer, vice president, social manager or secretary for the class of 2015.
The freshman class began campaigning on Aug. 29. Voting begins on Aug. 30 and will end on Thursday, Sept. 1 at 5:00 p.m. sharp. Voters can go to School Loop where a link will be posted and that will lead to Eduballot.
“I really wanted to get involved in all the school activities and I wanted to experience a bit of healthy competition, so being in class office seems to be the way to go in order to do that,” social manager candidate freshman Michaela Ota said.
During campaigning, candidates gain attention by dressing in purple and gold and by also creating posters which must be approved by the administration. The candidates are often seen walking around campus while talking to their peers who will decide if they have what it takes to make class office.
As a way of promoting, the Leadership program created a YouTube page where the students campaigning can make a video of themselves as a way of giving others an idea of who they are and what their class goals are.
“Campaigning is for the students to reach out to people in their class and to put their leadership skills to the test,” civics commissioner junior Emily Wong said.
The winners will be announced on School Loop after 5 p.m. on Sept.1. The new freshmen class officers will lead their class at the Welcome Back rally on Friday, Sept. 2.
