Along with Furry Friends, a pet assisted therapy organization based in the South Bay, Kim brought a number of canine comrades to MVHS as a way to help students relax in the midst of testing.
“I came up with the idea to bring some of our dogs to school,” Kim said. “As it’s the week of finals, I figured students needed the chance to de-stress and have fun.”
Kim, who has been a part of Furry Friends since July 2010, organized the event two weeks prior to finals week. Apart from such independently scheduled visits, she and other volunteers regularly take the dogs to hospitals, units for patients with Alzheimer’s, and Manorcare convalescent homes across the Bay Area.
“It’s really fun stuff,” she said. “You get to meet a lot of people, and dogs, too. It’s work for us and the animals, but it’s all great for socializing.”
And in a week filled with final presentations and last-minute cramming, Furry Friends has given MVHS another little reminder that their own dog days are almost at an end.
