Budget concerns lead to removal of one section
Due to district budget constraints, ASB Leadership and Community Leadership will be combined into one Leadership class for the 2011-2012 school year.
Currently, the 58-student ASB Leadership class is allocated two sections, which are classes of about 30 students, and the Community Leadership class is allocated one. Budget concerns downsized next year’s leadership program to two sections. The district allots a limited number of sections per school, which was announced to school site administration on May 11.
The decision was announced during lunch on May 12 to the current ASB Leadership class and students who were accepted as Community Leadership commissioners for next year. Although no structural decisions have been finalized, students who have already been accepted into Community Leadership for next year will be added to the current ASB Leadership applicant pool, out of which the ASB officers-elect and Community Leadership Board-elect will choose commissioners for the new class.
The ASB officers-elect and Community Leadership Board-elect will work with current ASB Leadership advisers, Deans of Students Denae Moore and Michael Hicks, to create a new structure for the Leadership class. Hicks and Moore will continue to teach the class next year and current Community Leadership adviser Jenna Smith will continue as a science teacher but not as an adviser.
