The ASB academic stress survey was sent to students, parents, and teachers in hopes of finding a solution that would aid ASB Leadership‘s effort to combat academic stress throughout the MVHS community, and will be open until April 15.
“This year in ASB, one of the goals that we’ve had is to be much more than just planners and try to actually solve problems around campus,” said ASB president senior Daniel Ki said. “And we realized a lot of different problems stemmed from academic stress.”
The survey asked students to rate the amount of academic pressure they felt from their parents and peers. It also asked for information such as the number of higher placement classes, like Advanced placement and honors, to measure the amount of stress as a result of class choices. Although ID numbers were requested on the survey, the was merely a means of tracking entries and all responses remained anonymous.
“There is in no way going to be any search for identification or anything like that,” Ki said. “We want to make it really clear to people that that’s not the purpose of the survey at all.”
As for finding solutions for these problems, Ki says it all depends on the survey responses. Until then, ASB Leadership encourages everyone to take the survey so that they can get a better idea of the next steps they need to take.
“The more people who do the survey, the better we’ll be able to do in terms of fixing the problem,” Ki said.
