“It was really successful, because we got a lot more applicants than we did last year,” commissioner sophomore Nikitika Bhatnagar.
Several of the high school hosts gave their shadows bits of information to help ease their future assimilation into the MVHS environment.
“I told him about the teachers,” freshman Ash Jindal said. “Pretty much which teachers are awesome and which teachers are less awesome.”
One of the most important pieces of knowledge given to the eighth graders was a breakdown of the campus map. Junior Rona Berger told her shadow multiple factoids about getting around MVHS.
“[I told my shadow how] to get to the second floor of the gym lobby, [that] there is no building P, there are portables, [and there is] no second floor of the F buildings,” Berger said.
Jindal trained his shadow, eighth grade student Bill Zhou, by letting Zhou find his classes. He described the basic concept behind the 200s classrooms on the second floor and general location of each building before letting Zhou lead the way.
Aside from the differences in campus layout, the middle school shadows noticed several other differences in the new environment.
“I was surprised the classes were loud and people do whatever they like.” Zhou said. “In middle school, everyone is quiet.”
