Recognition comes as surprise to Scott but not to community
Principal April Scott was named Association of California School Administrators Principal of the Year for Region 8, Santa Clara County. The honor, which was a surprise to Scott, was announced during the March 8 staff meeting with a visit by FUHSD Superintendent Polly Bove.
Scott has worked in the district since 1988, when she taught at MVHS as a math teacher until 1998. From 1998 to 2001, Scott served as Assistant Principal at Fremont High School, followed by a two-year stretch as FHS Principal. She moved to the District Office where she was Director of Educational services for a year before coming back to MVHS as principal in 2004.
Outside of her role as an educator, Scott also serves on the Northwest YMCA Board of Directors and is a member of Cupertino’s Rotary International Club.
“April [Scott] is a selfless leader of leaders and a trusted friend to all,” wrote Assistant Principal Dennis Plaza in Scott’s nomination application.
The recognition also serves as a nomination for the ASCA state award.
