The Cupertino Pioneers defeat the Matadors 27-34
The MVHS wrestling team visited longtime rival, the Cupertino Pioneers, in the Matadors’ first dual meet of the season on Jan. 6. The Matadors were trying to take back the Cupertino Cup after losing it 10 years ago.
In a match that determined the team’s league rank for this season, the Matadors tied the score 24-24 four matches in with three pins by seniors Adnan Hamwi and Adrian Garcia, and junior Michael Whittaker.
However, the Matadors were not able to secure the lead. After tying the Pioneers at 24, freshman Faris Karaborni and sophomore Ashton Krajnovich were pinned in the next two bouts. Cupertino held onto the Cup with a final score of 27-34.
