Fire alarm interrupts 7th period classes
According to 2012 treasurer Kevin Chang, ASB Leadership students were preparing a dry-ice fog machine that was to be placed in the academic court later that evening. Twenty seconds after the students powered the fog machine, the fake smoke activated the fire alarms and all 7th period classes evacuated the buildings.
Junior varsity and varsity water polo players put their practice on hold, left the pool in their swimsuits and waited on the lower field.
"We didn't want to get out of the pool because there wasn't going to be a fire in the pool," junior girls' water polo player Lauren Stewart said. "If they use the fire alarm too much and there's an actual fire, people are just going to think it's a drill.”
Though it inconvenienced teachers, Stewart suggests that it also contributed toward a distrust and disbelief in the emergency system in the case of a real emergency. Despite these negative aspects, the disruption did have one positive outcome.
“[Despite] some technical difficulties, there was a lot of fog, so we were happy [that the machines worked],” junior class officer Neil Fernandes said.
Administration has declined to comment.
