The Matadors face the Vikings the first time since CCS of last year
On Jan. 7, the Lady Mats played against the Palo Alto Vikings in their second league game which ended in a 2-0 win.
"We had played [Paly] for the CCS title, so it was kind of like a re-match" senior Alyssa Walker said. "They went out there wanting [to win], but we went out wanting [to win] even more."
The game began with the Matadors in possession of the ball. Two minutes into the game, the Matadors scored the first goal. From there, the Matadors continued to dominate the field. Senior Cheryl Kute intercepted a pass by Viking sophomore Mira Ahmand and passed the ball to senior Vanessa Forney. From there, Forney passed the ball to senior Michelle Pao who made an attempted goal shot that was blocked by the Viking goalie.
"We had control of the ball most of the time and pretty good possession," freshman Mimi Akoagi said.
The Matadors went into the half-time still leading in a 1-0 lead. Continuing their strong offense, freshman Celeste Kim passed the ball to junior Zohar Liebermensch, who kicked the ball to Akoagi. Akoagi attempted to score a goal, but overshot, and the ball rolled just outside of the goalie net. Afterwards, junior Grace Huang threw in the ball to Kute who headed the ball into the goal, bumping the score up to 2-0. The Matadors continued their aggressive offense, leaving the Vikings on the defensive up until the very end of the game. Their next game will be at home against Gunn High School on Jan. 14.
