Girls soccer defeated Gunn in semifinals to move onto the championships
"It was a really physical game. The ball was in the air a lot so there were a lot of headers and bumping and shoving," captain and junior Cheryl Kute said.
The goals were made during the second half. Sophomore Cheryl Tom took a corner kick that was headed in by senior Shandon Rovetta. Afterward, sophomore Sandra Ley passed the ball to junior Michelle Pao, who scored the final goal.
"[Pao's goal] was like a one on one with the goalie," junior Jaquie Stuart said. "We dominated second half."
The Matadors will be playing in the championships against Palo Alto High on Saturday, Feb. 28.
"We've lost to them, but we have the potential to beat them," Rovetta said. "Hopefully we'll get another banner in the gym."
