Homecoming 2017

Homecoming week is without a doubt one of the most spirited times of the school year. Whether it's by participating in skits or simply watching the performances, students in each class find a way to come together in this schoolwide bonding event.
While the competitive atmosphere is evident, the school is shining with unity as leadership and students work tirelessly to provide a fun event for all. Whether it's by winning a Battle of the Classes game of tug of war or creating the best rally poster, Homecoming is filled with opportunities for classes to come together and prove their hard effort.

Day 1

The start of Homecoming week came with a new tradition that began last year: skits. The class of 2019 sported black and green apparel to fit with their Hunger Games theme as they performed separate girls and boys dances in between scenes of their skit, closing with a co-ed dance. The rally court was flooding with students as each struggled through the crowd to get a closer look at the performances. It was during lunch, however, that the competitive spirit of MVHS students began to arise as students struggled to win the tug-of-war battle for Battle of the Classes.

Day 2

Skits transitioned from the battle of Hunger Games to the mystical world of Narnia as the class of 2020 took the stage. A dance battle between the Ice Queens people and the humans from the closet had the crowd cheering. Performers demonstrated their skill in acrobatics through two coed dances. The sophomores continued to dominate the day as they won the Battle of the classes activity, Balloon Pop, where they tried to pop the balloons attached to students of different classes. The freshman class of 2021 will be the next to perform on October 11.

Day 3

The class of 2021 performed their first Homecoming skit and dance, featuring Wonderland as their theme. Freshmen girls showed their energy in bright pink tie dye shirts, while the boys represented the cards of hearts against their brightly painted backdrops. Todays Battle of the Classes proved to be much harder than the previous ones as students passed plastic bags filled with water over then heads in a row to fill the bucket at the end. Cheers of enthusiasm could be heard within each team amidst screams of surprise when water splashed out of the bags.

Day 4

To wrap up the individual class performances, the seniors showed the result of months of practice through their Harry Potter-themed skit. The class of 2018 expressed their enthusiasm through upbeat dances, the boys sporting brightly-colored baseball shirts representing each Hogwarts House, their dances featuring smoke bombs, confetti and loads of enthusiasm. Then, during the last Battle of the Classes event of the week, everyone was invited to show their support for their class in the form of a cheer-off in the Rally Court, with the juniors coming in first place once again.

Rally

Students gathered in the gym for the Homecoming rally, dressed in lavender, white, yellow and purple. The classes competed in the 15-second cheer and rally games. Upbeat music and cheers echoed through the gym as the Marquesas, color guard and cheer and song teams performed, and the class of 2018 also performed the boys’ dance from their Homecoming skit the day before. Due to poor air quality, the Homecoming football game where the Homecoming court is traditionally announced was cancelled. Instead, the members of the court were introduced at the rally, and escorted by some of MVHS’ staff members. As the rally concluded with the seniors coming in first place, the class of 2018 burst out of the stands and gathered in a crowd on the gym floor, celebrating their win.
