A sequel to the critically acclaimed “Into the Spider-Verse,” the latest installment in the Spider-Verse series is set to focus on the dynamic between Miles Morales and his unexpected love interest Gwen Stacy. Oppenheimer (July 21, 2023)

Detailing the pitfalls and victors of titual character Dr. J. Robert Oppenheimer, director Christopher Nolan provides a maximalist, yet realistic portrayal of the troubled visionary. Oppenheimer’s role in the Manhattan Project — America’s undertaking of the development of the atomic bomb — led to the cementation of America as a global power. But at what cost? In “Oppenheimer,” Nolan explores the death and destruction caused by the infamous invention.

Barbie (July 21, 2023)

In “Barbie,” director Greta Gerwig attempts to bring substance to the plastic, superficial Mattel doll. Known for famously coming of age and feminist pieces, Gerwig chooses to provide the same sense of organized chaos of other movies she’s directed. Ken (Ryan Gosling) and Barbie (Margot Robbie) journey to find happiness outside Barbielandia, in what seems to be Robbie’s tried depiction of women’s liberation.

Ladybug & Cat Noir: The Movie (July 28, 2023)

In the adaptation of the classic children’s TV show that has kept viewers on the edge of their seats for the past eight years, Marinette Dupain-Cheng and Adrien Agreste, two Parisian high school students who don secret identities as the superheroes Ladybug and Cat Noir, continue their journey to protect Paris while hiding their identities from each other and the entire world. The question is not whether they will succeed in the former, but if they will finally fail in the latter and reveal to each other who they really are.

Joyride (July 7, 2023)

Proving that an Asian American led cast can also lead in a raunchy R-rated comedy filled with explicit scenes and taboos, “Joyride” is a breakthrough movie directed by Adele Lim, following four friends Audrey (Ashley Park), Kat (Stephanie Hsu), Lolo (Sherry Cola) and Deadeye (Sabrina Wu) as they travel to China to find Audrey’s birth mother and confront lessons of love and loss on the way.
