With many newcomers into the Girls Golf team, senior Harshitha Sriraman and junior Anika Singh express their hopes and expectations for the upcoming season.

“We are looking to have more wonderful additions to our team, and perform to the best of our abilities,” Sriraman said.

Sriraman has been playing for the last three years and Singh has been playing since the age of four. With their experience, they are expecting to become the co-captains of the Girls Golf team for this season. They both have practiced individually as preparation for the season. When it comes to game, they particularly strive for more accuracy.

“[We want to] hit the ball on the sweet spot of the club,” said Sriraman. “And pretty much stay consistent … within all the games.”

From the team as a whole, Sriraman and Singh hope for more dedication. Last year, many players were focused on their academics, which didn’t work out well for the team. They want to see more team bonding and dedication to the team.

Coach Brian Sullivan shares the same expectations and goals for the new girls golf team. He hopes for a more competitive team since they have been placed in a very strong league. Last season, Palo Alto High School qualified for the State Championship, and Gunn High School qualified for the Northern California Championship. Sullivan is hoping to do his best to bring the team through the season to a good position.

“I’m hoping this year, they can take that social bond and be a little more competitive,” Sullivan said.

In golf, players from all teams get to know each other. Since they play each team twice, they get to know girls with similar interests from many other schools. Even though golf is a sport played individually, the girls work together to be a strong team.

“At golf, we really are a family,” Sriraman said proudly.
