This game was very back and forth until the end .

It was the bottom of the 7th, 2 outs, runners on 2nd and 3rd base. The Matadors were down by one run, the score was 5-4. MVHS’ fate rested in the hands of recently pulled up sophomore pitcher, Surya Kumaraguru.

With two quick thuds, Kumaraguru found himself down in the count with two strikes. Kumaraguru then stepped out of the batter‘s box and looked at his dugout filled with full of teammates screaming their encouragement to him, stepped back into the batter‘s box and smacked a single through the middle of the infield. Kumaraguru’s hit gave seniors Danny McGarry and Matt Woodard the go ahead runs.

As Kumaraguru realized he had hit a walk off single, his look of confusion turned to a look of fear, the Matador’s bench had ran onto the field to dogpile the sophomore.

The game against the Milpitas High Trojans on April 7 was started by junior Kevin Nordby. Nordby, a pitcher who typically forces 1-2-3 innings, struggled in his start as he had been sick for the past week. After Nordby left in the 4th inning, Coach Nick Bonacorsi called upon Kamaraguru to step into the role as a pitcher. Kamaraguru frequently got the ball in play so that his defense behind him could make plays.

Nordby,Kamaraguru and Bonacorsi shared their thoughts after the game.
