New club makes history

Over the years MVHS has had clubs for most of its major subjects — math, science, writing, and foreign languages. However, there has never been a club devoted to history.

On Oct. 4, History Club held its first meeting. The club requires minimal time commitment and  and revolves around member-oriented activities. History Club plans to meet every other Tuesday at lunch in room B212 for debates, games, simulations and discussions based on member requests. An additional meeting will be held after school on the last Friday of each month to watch a historical movie and eat snacks.

“We want to show people that history can be fun, and we want to do it in an exciting way,” club President sophomore Megan Chang said.

History Club was approved by Club Commission on a probationary basis, meaning that it must have at least ten active members to remain a club. The first meeting had 30 attendees who were mostly sophomores. According to sophomore Anita Gunaseelan, she and her friends want to join History Club to spend time with each other while learning more about history.

Sophomore officers Amruth Chamraj, Jui Sarwate, and Chang emphasize that the goal of the club is to show both history-lovers and those who are not as fond of the subject that history can be enjoyable.

“For those of you that are tired of math and science, this is a break,” Chang said.
