Fire destroys family home on Rose Blossom Drive

Sophomore Hadar Sachs starts fundraiser to help family that falls victim to a fire

Sophomore Hadar Sachs returned from school on Monday, May 23 as usual. But her brother’s announcement rendered her speechless. “As soon as I got home on Monday afternoon, my brother Dan told me that his friend Justin Moore’s house caught on fire and burned down,” Hadar said. Kevin and Lydia Moore, along with their four children, were not at their home on Rose Blossom Drive when the fire started. None of the six family members were injured. Third-grader Dan Sachs, Hadar’s younger brother, had become good friends with Justin Moore in Lincoln Elementary. When Hadar returned from school that Monday, he told her what Justin had told him.“I don’t really know the rest of the family,” Hadar said, “but as soon as Dan told me about the fire, I thought to myself, ‘What if my house burned down and I had nothing left?’ I would be completely devastated, traumatized and confused…He told me that Justin was very sad that day at school. Everyone in the Lincoln community [is] still concerned for the family.”Hadar decided to take action and has started a fundraiser to help the family. After one day of promotion, she has raised $142.87. She plans to give the check to the family on either June 3rd or 4th. To help with the fundraising, the coin war in the carnival on May 26 will take place between classes.“Donating not only helps gain points for the rally, but it also helps the Moore family get back on their feet,” Hadar said.Check back later for more updates.{cc-by-nc-sa}
