Killers' lead singer Brandon Flowers releases his solo album on Sept.14 after months of rumors

In the midst of electronic, dance and pop songs dominating the Billboard Charts, Brandon Flowers’ new album Flamingo, which is set to be released on Sept. 14, has the potential to defy the top-charting genre stereotype that injects provocative messages into the mass. A man short of experience with a solo career but is a veteran in the business.

Brandon Flowers’ debut album, “Flamingo,” takes his listeners into his mind after the death of his mother. Photo taken from www.brandonflowersmusic.com.Flowers’ decision to kick start a solo career induced The Killers into a hiatus; however, it sounds like he’s still in the band. The album contains the intricate soundtrack that made The Killers well-known—strong guitar riffs, unique rhythms and the controlled usage of pop beats. The songs “On the Floor” and “Swallow It” are Flowers’ only distinctive song from The Killers since he experiments with a lower register.

In the first stronger half of the album, the lyrics contain the reoccurring theme of loneliness and regret. After all, his mother lost her life to brain cancer early this year.  The songs “Only the Young” and “Hard Enough“ featuring Jenny Lewis contain powerful lyrics that exemplify the feelings he had when he recorded the album. The first set of tracks are not to be mistaken with a slow ballad because they contain a mid-tempo beat. The first five tracks of the album are the strongest when he reflects upon the loneliness he was experiencing. “It’s inevitable that anything that happens to you is going to show itself in the music,” Flowers said in an interview with the American Songwriter.

But even the depressed have to move on. The second half of the album contains the feel-good, upbeat songs that entice listeners to dance. The 1960s-vintage style song “Was it something I said?” and karaoke-worthy “Magdalena” are both fast-paced songs that make listeners forget all about the pain Flowers was experiencing. The second set of songs contain the lead single for the album, “Crossfire,” that will have students humming to their English class.

Flowers’ album, “Flamingo,” surpasses the hype surrounding his debut solo album. He takes listeners on his emotional roller-coaster, but Flowers faces the huge challenge of sounding distinct from The Killers. Keep an eye out for this potential hit.
