Why so socialist?

Pictures of President Obama as a “socialist joker” have suddenly appeared on the Internet. In fact, whoever did the photo-shopping did quite a nice job on it; the picture really jars the viewer. However, this twisted view of our current president does hold some truth.

In the past six months or so, Obama has been idealized to symbolize change. Maybe that’s what he wanted Americans to think, that change is coming our way and that our problems will be solved.
Remember his campaign? Remember every one’s elation  around the world when he won the election?

Currently,as Obama tries to change the clunky American health care system, people label him as a “socialist” and a psychopathic clown.

His health-care reforms do make sense; everybody should have access to health-care. However, how Obama will make his plans work is ambiguous, (Cutting taxes? No, he’s raising them. No? He’s only taxing 10% of society?) so it’s not hard to see why people are confused.

And if these confused people are wary, it’s because their trust in the president is gone. Obama’s already broken a promise by using Bush’s law-skirting tactic of issuing signing statements, which are instructions to executive officials regarding the interpretation and placement of new laws that can be used to bypass certain laws such as the torture ban. While campaigning, Obama called this tactic an “abuse”. Clearly, he changed his mind.

The change that Americans wanted seems to have gone from an idealized path to the jungle of obfuscation. People are perplexed and disillusioned with the new reforms. Until Obama starts drawing definite lines, he sounds like he’s juggling his policies.
