Fire destroys apartments on Homestead Road

At 5:54 p.m. on Nov. 26, the Santa Clara County Fire Department responded to a three-alarm fire at Village Green Apartments on Homestead Road, next to Homestead High School. According to Fire Department battalion chief Richard Salazar, the fire department responded to had contained the fire by 7:50 p.m. As stated on the Mercury News, the fire started when a woman who had been cooking french fries forgot about them, according to Fire Department arson investigator Jeremy Davis.

According to disaster action team captain Dave Gibson of the American Red Cross, the Red Cross, in conjunction with HHS administration, will set up a shelter in the school gymnasium for the displaced residents.

About 15 apartment units were affected by the fire, leaving 60 people homeless, according to the San Jose Mercury News. The Red Cross will be providing food, clothes and cots for the victims.
