Homemade Hipster: Persian ginger cookie

As Persian New Year rolls around, many Iranians prepare for celebrations and festivities by making popular delicacies. On March 21, Iranians around the world make Shirini berenji, or ginger cookies, to celebrate the new year.

Ingredients:

  • Half pound flour
  • Half pound butter
  • half pound sugar
  • half pound rice flour
  • 4 egg yolks
  • saffron
  • ginger
  • Sesame seeds

Combine flours. Then combine eggs and sugar and beat vigorously. MIx eggs and sugar into flour. Cool for 15-20 minutes.

Roll into small balls. Brush saffron onto cookies and sprinkle sesame seeds. Bake at 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes.
