If we really think about it, social media is prevalent in every aspect of our lives. When we log onto Facebook, it asks us, “What’s on your mind?” When we use Twitter we’re asked, “What’s happening?” And apps such as Snapchat, Instagram and Pinterest allow us to share and view images in a matter of minutes. Social media listens to us rant, deals with our bad jokes, and acts as mediator between us and the rest of the world. But how much of this communication can we really call substantial? Below are four different forms of social media: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat and our takes on the evolution towards a more visual and abstract type of communication they offer to users.
