In the last five minutes of the game, junior Radwan Hamwi ran past Wilcox High School’s defense, and took off down the field, heading towards the end zone. Cheerleaders straightened on their stools. Parents stood up in the bleachers. Bull spirit commissioners gripped the fence. But as Hamwi ran down the sideline, he stepped out of bounds and a few minutes later the game on Oct. 31 ended 0-41, giving MVHS a 0-5 league record.

Although MVHS lost the last home game against Palo Alto High School by only one touchdown, the Matadors were unable to keep up with WHS, who are second place in the league with a 4-1 record. The Wilcox Chargers played a consistent game, scoring one touchdown in each of the first two quarters and two, five minutes apart, in the third quarter. Despite several deflections from senior Max McCann, the Matadors could not shut down WHS passes and finished the game without any points.

The next home game is on Nov. 7 at 7:00 pm against Santa Clara High School.
